Never put yourself or others in danger in order to help a turtle in the road. As much as most of us want to save animals, unfortunately we can’t save the world. We do the best we can, whenever we can, but sometimes we can’t help because the circumstances are not right. We don’t want to come to a sudden stop on a highway to retrieve a turtle. But, if traffic conditions are right we could pull to the side of the road, scope for any traffic and help the turtle. Depending on whether it’s a country road or highway traffic may be busy or sparse. If it’s a busy city road or highway do not take risks. If you are able to safely retrieve the turtle be sure to hold it from the back part of the shell. Snapping turtles may bite. The best thing to do is take the turtle to the side of the road it was heading, and deposit it off the road.
